E Mail now back and working!

Posted by Walt Davis on June 10, 2019 at 2:10 PM Comments comments (12065)

Firstly, if anyone has not had a reply from me or the site its because I have been unable to access my e mail for nearly TWO years!

The issue has finally been resolved and I have had to sift through over 7,500 backlogged e mails!!

I am still to go through the form submissions from this site. I will reply even if its no longer relevent.

The deleted e mails I will trawl through as i dont want to delete any important picures or information.

I will also be updating the site over the coming weeks and months as I have seen some missing items such as pictures etc. I have neglected the site due to the e mail issues and some personal changes in my life which have now stabalised, not any serious issues just life, time and work.

I need to also refurbish the truck when finances allow but this will be a slow process but its about time as it looks tired and needs a few bits replacing and a respray in time..

Best wishes,

Walt

Hi everyone,

I have uploaded some more documents in this section but all I can see is still converting when I click on the link.

Not sure if you see it too?

If still an issue can someone provide the link to a free download area for these documents...

Many thanks

Hi All,

Apologies for the delay in accepting your memebership requests. I have now done this but it does ask that you complete your profile. Not sure what this means but I have no control over this so I advise that you do as much as you can as Im not sure if it prevents your entering the site in any way until completed.

Best wishes

I have tonight updated the site and new members should have been accepted. It was the lack of an app that had caused this issue.

Best wishes

I have been without  a decent internet for some months due to a move that has been delayed and I am in between homes!

I hope to have a new home in the near future and can catch up on the site and all its additions and updates.

Apoligies if I have not replied or contacted anyone who may have posted/asked a question.

YVB 152H Campaign Launched

Please take a moment of your time to read the new page added to our group. This vehicle has an historic interest to our group as it's the 1st Commando built. There is a rumour that the owner is going to convert it back to the 'original' 2nd production Range Rover Classic.

It would be a dreadful shame to lose a '1st' of one type to re-build a copy of the '2nd' of another. I say copy as not much if anything would be 'original' and to attempt to sell or claim it as the 2nd production Classic would be fraud I believe anyway?

Once it is widely known it's not  'original' I think it would become almost worthless to a 'genuine; collector or enthusiast.

10th Anniversary of the group in 2013

Posted by Walt Davis on January 10, 2013 at 3:45 AM Comments comments (1538)

Hi everyone,

After a terrible 2012 I hope this year will be a great improvement especially as it's the tenth year of the formation of the group.

I would like to thank those who attended shows last year to keep the group in the public eye often as 'Billy no mates' as many were unable to attend through other commitments and issues. The tough times we are currently experienceing are still very much in our minds as these 'toys' we love are not the chepest to maintain and run.

I myself attended no shows last year as my personal circustances had changed greatly and a leaking fuel tank did not help! I hope that now that has been sorted I can plan better for the upcoming shows , that is if the weather is kinder to us, and unlike last years cancellations of many large shows we are left with no where to go?

A few shows are now listed thanks in the main part to Brain Brollason getting 'bored'and making a few phone calls to organisers/ magazines to get slots for the group.

I appreciate all your stirling efforts in the past years and am looking forward to this years programme and the events I am able to attend. I would add that Cosford Air Show may be the groups annual meeting event in June. This is to be confirmed. We have been invited to be part of a display there.

Best wishes for a healthy New Year to you all

Six Appeal?

Found this old post on the Land rover forum(2008 )

"On level ground, all six wheels have an even contact pressure.. But on any uneven ground, without compensation for the rear bogey, any one of the rear axels could be carrying more weight than the other.. If your going to make an effective 6x4 you must design a rear suspension that will spread the weight evenly between all the rear axels over all surfaces. Great examples of this are with the Sammell 6x6 which uses a rocking beam between the rear axels, giving full compensation. No one axel carries any more weight than the other.. Plus without this you can easily overload the axels.

On the Range rover 6x4 fire tender, that extra ''dolly axel'' is dead. In an off road situation Ive watched, a fully loaded range rover fire tender got stuck crossing a ditch between the road and a field.. Seeing just one front wheel spinning in the grass while the middle wheels spun helplessly in the air looked shameful. 6 wheels and none of them could drive. If only they'd fully compensated the rear axels and not simply added another coil sprung axel it would have worked.

So it stopped because once the front wheels crossed the ditch, as soon as the middle wheels reached the hollow and of the ground this left all the weight on the undriven axel. If the rear bogey was properly compensated then the weight would have been shared evenly between the rear axels..

Thats why compensation is vital if your extra axel isnt to become a plow".

This happened to me on some very loose soft ground before I knew anything about the Range Rover 6x4.Because of a slope the middle wheels were spinning so were the front ones. The rear wheels just supported the front spinners! We had to reveres back down the track to get out of this situation. Even Difflock made no difference.

Just thought it would be of interest to members.
